Locavore - Buy Local - A Bucks County Business Community Event - Update

On February 18th, 2010, Superior Woodcraft hosted a business networking event that coincided with the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce business card exchange.  A goal of the event was to raise awareness of local businesses, local farms and local foods, hence the title locavore - buy local.  Approximately 350 local business people attended this event and sampled wonderful food and beverages grown and produced in the BucksCounty Area while we all discovered and learned about the wonderful businesses located in Bucks County and each other.

Superior Woodcraft's business networking event was a celebration of community and our local businesses.  It was a fun and positive environment where the guests enjoyed themselves and the company of their neighbors.

Word of the success of this event not only spread locally, but it has caught the attention of others in the nation.  The Bucks County Herald, a local newspaper, featured a story on the event.  News of Superior Woodcraft's event also spread as far west as Des Plaines, Illinois.  Superior Woodcraft, which is a member of Bucks-Mont NARI, had several NARI members attend the event.  Bucks Mont NARI is the local chapter of The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).  News of the event spread to NARI's  headquarters in Des Plaines.  NARI covered the story called, Tuffin’ It Out: Keeping it local to share the information with its members across the nation.  NARI's, Tuffin' It Out, is series of articles that provides information on how to survive in this tough economy.  Superior Woodcraft's Locavore - Buy Local  - A Bucks County Business Community event served as one example of how to make lemonade from a sour economy.

Everyone at Superior Woodcraft is thrilled that so many people enjoyed this event and benefited from it.  It is especially gratifying to see that a local event can benefit others across the nation.  This really makes one think about the true impact and potential we all possess.  Maybe acting locally, together, we can all help each other through these trying economic times. Maybe the only support and assistance we need is each other.

Locavore - It is part of the concept of local purchasing and local economies, a preference to buy locally produced goods and services - particulary related to food economies. Learn more about locavore.

Buy Local - Support yourself: Several studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, rather than a nationally owned businesses, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms -- continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community. Encourages local prosperity. Learn more about buying local - Bucks County, Pa
