Bucks County Designer House and Gardens - Old Glory Farm

Shaped by its beams and architectural detailing, warmed by fire, sunlight and, honey-toned cabinetry, the Living Room beckons family and friends to gather harmoniously in a new and gracious way that accommodates comfort, yet bows in a friendly manner, to technology and efficiency.

Today’s busy family is looking for comfort and convenience. As the kitchen location is far from the Living Room, which is the only sizable room for gathering. The professional design team selected Superior Woodcraft to create an attractive Convenience Center for this epicenter of activity. Superior Woodcraft’s custom made cabinetry accommodates under-counter wine cooler, refrigerator, microwave, and a state of the art coffee/espresso system, built into a customized furniture piece, with a warm Cinnabar linen finish. This convenience center fulfills your every need, allowing you to host family and friends with calm efficiency, which brings utility, beauty and harmony into your home and family’s lives - creating a Superior way of life.

Change Can Save ¢hange

Have you ever had the weird experience of coming back from an extended vacation or time away and you feel as if you are seeing your home for the first time? This has happened to me a few times and it is always very enlightening.

The first things I usually notice are things that seemed invisible before my departure- the lack of window treatments in a room, clutter that heretofore looked like artful arrangement, wonky and incongruous color combinations; lastly uninspiring furniture placement.

Here’s the cure (even if you are not fresh from your vacay in the Bahamas):

  • Choose a room that needs a lift. Typically not the bedroom, since most have only one place that you could logically place the bed.
  • Get yourself some plastic furniture movers that go under the legs of heavy pieces. You can find them at any hardware store.
  • Take all lighting, accessories, plants etc out of the room. Clean everything! And, I do mean really clean everything!
  • Have some fun moving furniture around. Think outside the box and keep moving the major pieces, exhausting all possible combinations. Sometimes the most unexpected arrangement will yield a better traffic pattern, open up space for other uses and just be more pleasing to the eye.
  • Once you’ve decided on a new layout, “shop” other rooms in your house for accessories and lighting that may be a better fit for your chosen room.
  • Swap out, edit, rearrange. Have some fun with it. I bet you have some pretty cool stuff you either stopped noticing or have shoved in a corner or closet somewhere.
There you have it! You successfully re-energized your interior, made better use of space and created variety (spice of life!) without spending a dime.

Dream Kitchens and Baths Features Covenant Kitchens and Superior Woodcraft

Gerard Ciccarello of Covenant Kitchens and Baths in Westbrook Connecticut utilized Superior Woodcraft's custom made cabinetry to create a kitchen that provides utility, beauty and harmony. Covenant Kitchens and Superior Woodcraft’s project was so successful that it graces the cover of Dream Kitchens and Baths – Best of the Best-30 Timeless Looks, Spring 2011.

Cheerful Formality – is used to describe this wonderful kitchen. The remodeling project, started with an Aga stove, which is the focal point. The mantel anchors the Aga stove while creating the feelng of a traditional hearth. Another interesting element is that older German decorative tiles were used as the backsplash. This is a nice touch of complimenting the new with the old. There are so many details in this kitchen that it is impossible to list all of them. In addition to great designs the elements that make this kitchen a special place are the kitchen’s rich history and tradition that is very personal and brings life to the space. After reading the entire story you will realize that this is more than a mere remodeling project - it is a tribute to family, ancestry and a warm-hearted lifestyle. The Story Behind the Story – A homeowner’s dream kitchen.

To view more photos of this wonderful kitchen pick up a copy of Dream Kitchens and Baths – Best of the Best -30 Timeless Looks, by Better Homes and Garden. This kitchen can be viewed on pages 6-11. Visit your local magazine retailer to pick up a copy.

President Obama Visits Bucks County's Gamesa Plant

I had the opportunity to hear President Obama speak at a town hall meeting hosted by Gamesa Corporation at their Fairless Hills, Pa manufacturing facility. Gamesa is a Spanish manufacturing company, which manufactures wind turbines and constructs wind farms. There are several wind farms operating in Pennsylvania and more planned for the future. Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm is Pennsylvania's largest and was built by Gamesa.

President Obama visted Gamesa to highlight his goal that 80 percent of the nation's energy comes from clean sources by 2035. Addressing a question by a Gamesa engineer about smart grids, President Obama endorsed the development of a "smart grid," which he said would allow energy to be sent where it needs to go with less wasted transmission.

President Obama also stated that there was no easy or quick solution to lowering energy prices in the near term. He did chide one Gamesa employee for driving a gas guzzler and suggested that he trade it on for a more fuel efficient car made by General Motors, Chrysler or Ford.

In addition to renewable sources like wind and solar, the President’s proposal would also include natural gas, nuclear power and coal that has been processed to remove carbon.

President Obama’s proposal for renewable and alternative energy sources should be of great interest to Pennsylvanians. In addition to the Gamesa wind farms, Pennsylvania also has strong interests in coal and natural gas. One can say that Pennsylvania was built on coal. With Pennsylvania’s vast supply of coal it has been a long standing energy source in Pennsylvania.

With the recent developments in the Marcellus Shale Range natural gas has become a hot topic for Pennsylvania. The presence of an enormous volume of now recoverable gas in Pennsyvlania has a great economic significance. Marcellus natural gas will have the advantage of being the closest natural gas to the high population areas of the United States. However, there are some environmental concerns from the newer drilling technology needed to extract the Marcellus natural gas.
